Press Release

Hanoi, May 20, 2013

Hanoi, Vietnam – The all-new Colorado, which was designed and engineered to be Chevrolet’s toughest, highest-performing and most refined pickup truck ever, was introduced in Vietnam today by General Motors Vietnam.

The all-new Colorado is the product of a five-year, US$2 billion vehicle program. It offers more technology and delivers more features and value than ever before. Interiors, exteriors and major mechanical features are all new, representing the most clean-sheet midsize truck program in Chevrolet’s more than 100 years of history.

The first member of the Colorado being introduced by GM Vietnam is the Colorado LTZ which is equipped with an all-new Duramax turbo-diesel engine that provides a leading combination of performance and fuel efficiency, as well as better performance on Vietnam’s roads than other engines. This 2.8L diesel engine delivers a power of 178 hp/3,800 rpm & torque of 440 Nm/2000 rpm. This is the best and most powerful engine in Vietnam market in the segment.

“No brand knows pickups and the expectations of pickup buyers better than Chevrolet. Being the first CBU of General Motors in Vietnam, our new pick up will strengthen Chevrolet’s image in the market. ” said Gaurav Gupta, GM Vietnam Managing Director. “We are confident that this is the right vehicle for even the toughest truck users in Vietnam”

GM Vietnam Head of Sales and Marketing Le Thanh Hai added “Today a vehicle is more than just about its functions. It is also a reflection of personal character and style. We have gone beyond just meeting the needs of our customers for a strong and reliable vehicle by offering a product that will excite entrepreneurs and car enthusiasts as well. The Colorado LTZ also addresses the needs of ‘men of steel’ with its styling, powerful and fuel-efficient engine, and luxurious interior.”

The four-wheel-drive, four-door pickup supports different needs and lifestyles. Its chassis was newly designed with a larger size. It can accommodate heavy loads while maintaining stability. It has the strongest frame among 1-ton pickups.

Like a luxury car, the pickup has leather seats, a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat and automatic air-conditioning. The audio system includes six speakers along with a CD player, USB hub and Bluetooth wireless connection. The steering wheel has audio controls. These features are best in class in Vietnam. The Colorado LTZ also comes with two front air bags and anti-lock brakes, and has ground clearance of 216 mm.

According to Brad Merkel, GM’s Global Vehicle Line Executive for Midsize Trucks, “We have engineered it to meet the needs and desires of commercial and personal buyers alike. It can be a workhorse, a family hauler, a lifestyle vehicle, or a truck that plays to the higher-end premium buyer.”

Global Know-How Matched with Local Expertis

The development of the all-new Colorado was led by a highly skilled team of GM engineers in Brazil who used their expertise to tailor the vehicle for a number of global markets, including those in Southeast Asia.

Team members lived in Thailand during the Colorado’s development, immersing themselves in the highly competitive truck market, and constantly visited other countries in the region to observe the use of pickups and the driving conditions people experience. That expertise led to the development of the new Colorado LTZ, which is the top model in the Colorado range.

The new pickup delivers ride and handling characteristics unexpected of a midsize pickup thanks to two levels of chassis and suspension tuning. As a result, it is equally adept both at hauling and towing, and at serving as a day-to-day city commuter.

The Colorado LTZ features an all-new GM-developed four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that is designed to deliver a leading combination of performance and fuel efficiency. The 2.8L Duramax diesel, which is built by GM in Thailand, features a variable-geometry turbocharger for optimal power and efficiency across the rpm band and a balancer shaft for greater smoothness.

The engine is rated at 178 horsepower (130 kW) and 324 lb.-ft./440 Nm with a five-speed manual transmission. The engine’s CO2 emissions are up to 13 percent lower than emissions from similar diesel engines and fuel consumption is only 8.5 liters per 100 km.

Striking Exterior Looks

The Colorado’s bold road presence was created by the GM Advanced Design Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Design highlights include a dramatic power dome in the hood which, combined with a raised cowl, gives the Colorado a strong, purposeful appearance. Higher-mounted dual projector headlamps are positioned beneath the power dome, emphasizing the visual strength in the face of the vehicle.

Also prominent is the contemporary dual-port grille – an unmistakable Chevrolet cue – that carries a three-dimensional grille mesh. Chrome appointments in the grille surround, door handles, tailgate handle, mirror caps, and headlamps and fog lamps provide a premium appearance.

Power-operated mirrors are large and, combined with turning indicators, increase vision and support safe driving in all weather conditions. The Colorado LTZ is the first model from Chevrolet that offers LED-illuminated tail lamps, for a luxury and sporty look.

That premium appearance is also reflected by detailed sheet metal work throughout the exterior, including the hood and door panels, which blends layers of natural light for a rich, uncluttered, natural surface appearance.

The pickup is available with seven exciting colorsexterior colors: Oceanic Blue, Switchblade Silver, Summit White, Royal Gray, Sizzle Red, Auburn Brown and Black Sapphire.

All-Purpose Interior Comfort

With a flowing instrument panel, integrated center stack and trademark Chevrolet dual cockpit design, the interior of the Colorado LTZ combines car-like characteristics with the boldness expected of a pickup.

Boasting segment-leading front- and second-row shoulder room, headroom and seat height, the Colorado provides outstanding levels of interior comfort for the driver and passengers.

Designers also carried the premium finish expressed so boldly in the Colorado’s exterior into the interior with the use of chrome appointments around the shifter and shifter head; steering wheel bezels; HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) controls; door pulls; door appliqués; and surrounding the radio head.
